Xavier Jesuit Academy is wrapping up Catholic Schools Week today with a heartwarming celebration bringing together students, grandparents, and grandfriends for a morning of faith, learning, and community connection.
After weather and snow days adjusted the week's schedule, the school community rallied to ensure Catholic Schools Week concluded on a meaningful note. Parent volunteers organized the special Grandparents and Grandfriends Day, creating an opportunity for students to share their XJA experience with the elders who support their journey.
The celebration began with Liturgy of the Word, centering the community in prayer and reflection. Students and their guests are participating in four engaging activities designed to showcase the hands-on, experiential learning that defines XJA's educational approach.
In the kitchen, New Leaf Kitchen is guiding students and grandparents through making fresh salsa, combining culinary skills with nutrition education. The Cincinnati Vibrant Youth Project is leading energetic fitness activities, demonstrating the school's commitment to physical wellness. Cool Critters Outreach brought fascinating animals to campus, sparking curiosity and wonder about the natural world. Students and their guests are also enjoying friendly chess matches, putting strategic thinking skills into practice.
During Liturgy of the Word, Fr. Nathan Wendt, S.J. spoke about the power of storytelling in gatherings like this one. "Telling stories strengthens community bonds," Fr. Wendt reflected. "That also applies to telling God's stories. God's story is alive at XJA because of you. Each one of you is saying yes in a particular way to XJA's mission as a parent, grandparent, faculty, staff, benefactor, and volunteer."
The multigenerational gathering reflects Xavier Jesuit Academy's understanding that education happens in partnership with families. By inviting grandparents and grandfriends into the school day, XJA is strengthening the bonds between home and school while giving students the opportunity to share their growth and accomplishments with those who have shaped their lives.

Xavier Jesuit Academy, Cincinnati's first Jesuit Nativity-model school, serves young men in grades 3-8 from the Bond Hill neighborhood and surrounding communities. The school's extended day model, small class sizes, and comprehensive support prepare students for success in college preparatory high schools and beyond.
