Xavier Jesuit Academy Launches Companion Scholars Program with St. Xavier High School

Xavier Jesuit Academy (XJA) is proud to participate in the Companion Scholars Program, a collaboration with St. Xavier High School designed to prepare exceptional middle school students for success in rigorous college-preparatory environments. This initiative at XJA is led by Dr. Hollie Johnson, Director of Graduate Support at XJA, who brings 20 years of education experience, including eight years as a Xavier University professor.

This invitation-only program embodies the Jesuit principle of cura personalis, care for the whole person, by providing selected students with specialized academic preparation, leadership development, and character formation. The program meets four times monthly during the school day, with three sessions at XJA and one monthly session at St. Xavier High School, allowing students to experience the high school environment while maintaining their connection to their home community.

Students chosen for the program have demonstrated strong character, academic promise, and leadership potential. They benefit from familiarization with the St. Xavier campus, mentorship relationships with current high school students, and immersion in a community that values scholarship, faith, and service. The curriculum focuses on developing essential skills including advanced academic preparation, leadership development rooted in Ignatian values, and social skills necessary for navigating rigorous educational environments.

The partnership between XJA and St. Xavier High School represents the strength of Jesuit educational networks, with both institutions sharing 500 years of Jesuit educational tradition. As an initiative of XJA's Graduate Support Program, the Companion Scholars Program enhances the comprehensive guidance Dr. Johnson and her team provide as students transition to college-preparatory high schools.

Parents play a crucial role by supporting their scholars as they balance program participation with regular academic responsibilities. Students remain responsible for completing any missed coursework, developing time management skills essential for future success while embracing the Ignatian ideal of the "magis," always striving for more in service of God and others.

The Companion Scholars Program represents more than preparation for high school. It's an investment in developing faith-filled leaders who will serve as multiplying agents of positive change in their communities. Through this partnership, XJA and St. Xavier High School are ensuring that young men from Bond Hill and surrounding communities have every opportunity to reach their full potential as scholars, leaders, and men for others.
