XJA Sixth Graders Celebrate Milestone with Rite of Passage Ceremony

Building on Tradition: A New Chapter of Growth and Leadership

Although this marks only the second year of Xavier Jesuit Academy, XJA continues to build meaningful "firsts" that will become cherished traditions for years to come. Following the Mass of the Holy Spirit, principal Kyle Chandler announced a special Rite of Passage ceremony designed to honor our sixth graders as they transition from elementary to middle school.

A Symbol of Growth and Responsibility
Each sixth grader received a tie during this inaugural ceremony, marking their passage from grade school to middle school. These ties were generously donated by the XJA Ambassador Committee, represented by Alex Derkson, who presented the gifts as symbols of the students' growth and new responsibilities.

The ceremony recognizes a significant milestone in our young men's academic journey. As they cross this threshold, our sixth graders take on new roles and expectations that align with XJA's mission of forming "Men for Others."

"This tie is more than just being part of your uniform on special formal days. This tie is the symbol of the growth and maturity that you have here at Xavier Jesuit Academy. So I want you to remember that when you wear it, it shows that you're a middle schooler, you're a scholar, you're a leader, you're a man of God." - Founding Principal Kyle Chandler

Expectations and Leadership
This accomplishment comes with meaningful expectations that reflect our Jesuit values and Alex's inspiring words:

  • Showing Up: Our sixth graders commit to consistent presence and engagement in their education, understanding that their participation matters not just for their own growth but for the entire XJA community.
  • Doing Your Work: With their transition to middle school, these young men embrace academic excellence and personal responsibility as foundational to their formation.
  • Leading Yourself Well: This milestone represents growth in self-discipline and character, essential qualities for future leaders.
  • Love, Fellowship, and Brotherhood: Most importantly, the ties represent their role as mentors and examples for their younger brothers in grades 3-5, fostering the spirit of cura personalis and continuing to grow as "Men for Others."

Building Tradition The XJA-Way
As these sixth graders wear their ties with pride, they carry forward the values that will shape them into the leaders our communities need: young men who are faith-filled, intellectually competent, committed to doing justice, and open to growth.

The ceremony marks not just academic progression, but the deepening of character and the embracing of responsibility that defines the XJA experience.
