What is Jesuit Education?
Jesuit education is a 500-year tradition rooted in the vision of St. Ignatius of Loyola, emphasizing academic excellence, spiritual formation, and service to others. With over 2,000 schools worldwide serving 1.5 million students, Jesuit education forms "men and women for others" - graduates who are intellectually competent, spiritually grounded, and committed to justice, using their talents in service to their communities and those most in need.
More than 14,000 men are part of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) worldwide with a commitment to a mission of faith in the service of justice.
Journeying with youth and accompanying young people in the creation of a hope-filled future is one of the top focus areas for Jesuits worldwide. The model makes education accessible regardless of economic background, with curricula that focus on service and justice, engaging students in service to their communities and neighborhoods.
The Ignatian Vision
Jesuit education is grounded in the spiritual vision of St. Ignatius of Loyola, founder of the Society of Jesus. This vision emphasizes:
- Finding God in all things and affirming the goodness of creation
- Developing freedom to respond to God's love through service to others
- Following Christ as the model for human life and service
- Pursuing the "magis" - always seeking the greater good and excellence
- Building community through shared mission and collaboration
